about
With an upcoming benefit performance for a women's shelter weighing
on my mind, I felt I needed songs that strongly related to the need. I
found some that loosely fit but decided to write a song specifically for the benefit show.
I thought that you should know
That life’s not always so
So difficult and always a sad song
I’ve seen how you must live
You give and you forgive
But darling there is something here so wrong
All the perils you run from
To cover what was done
With just a blanket ‘tween your body and the stars
Out in the cold you’re free
But inside I can see
Your body and your soul so full of scars
So I hope that you will see
There’s shelter here with me
I’ll cover you and love you as a friend
But it will take some time
To help you draw the line
To know you’ll never need to go back there again
So when you need to find
A place where you can hide
To shield you and to hold you for a while
A home that’s off the street
To lift you off your feet
And to carry you to shelter from exile
You know that I’ll be here
To protect from what you fear
To mend your broken wings to fly again
Cause’ I know that you are tough
But life can be so rough
That sometimes you just need a helping hand
So now I hope you see
There’s shelter here with me
I’ll cover you and love you as a friend
And it will take some time
But you will draw the line
To know that you are free to love again
